Dr. Robert B. Pamplin, Jr., Expands Community Newspaper Reach

Recent Acquisitions, Start-up Reinforce Commitment to Serving Communities with Relevant News, Information

Portland, Ore. – July 1, 2013 – Through the Pamplin Media Group, Dr. Robert B. Pamplin, Jr., has furthered his commitment to providing communities with relevant, local news and information. A recent acquisition of the Central Oregonian, following on the heels of six additional community newspapers purchased in January, underscores Dr. Pamplin’s interest in preserving quality journalism on a smaller, community scale. “With our recent acquisitions and the start-up of the Hillsboro Tribune last fall, the Pamplin Media Group now produces 25 weekly and monthly community publications,” said Mark Garber, president of the group’s newspaper division. “That level of coverage around the state makes us the largest source of community news and advertising in Oregon. Advertisers and readers know that when they pick up their local paper, the content will be meaningful and it will be focused on their neighborhoods.” Last week, the Pamplin Media Group completed the purchase of the Central Oregonian, a twice-weekly paper published in Prineville. The paper rounded out an earlier dealer with Eagle Newspapers of Salem, Ore., in which six community papers traded hands. In that sale in January, the Pamplin Media Group bought the Canby Herald, Madras Pioneer, Molalla Pioneer, Newberg Graphic, Wilsonville Spokesman and Woodburn Independent. In addition, the Pamplin Media Group introduced the Hillsboro Tribune in fall 2012. The recent acquisitions from Eagle Newspapers and the new Hillsboro Tribune join a number of community papers from throughout the Portland metropolitan area, including: the Beaverton Valley Times, Bee serving Sellwood and Southeast Portland, Boom! Boomers and Beyond, Clackamas Review, Estacada News, Forest Grove News-Times, Gresham Outlook, King City Regal Courier, Lake Oswego Review, North Willamette News, Oregon City News, Portland Tribune, Sandy Post, Sherwood Gazette, South County Spotlight, Southwest Community Connection, Tigard and Tualatin Times and West Linn Tidings. The Pamplin Media Group also includes a contract publishing division, commercial printing division and various specialty publications.
